Surface Preparation
Surface preparation
– an integral step to a long lasting finish!
It is vital that adequate preparation is carried out to prolong the lifespan of your paint job. This will mostly depend on how well the surface was prepared and the use of the correct primer coat prior to paint being applied. The majority of times that the paint doesn’t stand up to the test of time, it is down to incorrect prep and /or incorrect primer.
What does correct surface preparation consist of?
Surface preparation is making sure the surface is clean, holes and cracks are filled and then the surface is sanded smooth. Any old flaking paint must be removed and remaining paint smoothened out. Any stains like knots, damp or tannin etc must be sealed with the appropriate sealant. This exercise can often take several times longer to carry out than the painting itself takes but it is equally if not more important.
